I know, I know — every autumn, everyone grabs a knife, a pumpkin, and suddenly feels like an artist. But let’s be honest: pumpkin carving is real art, not some lazy Saturday craft project. And if anyone at BabúPaws can talk about aesthetics, it’s me. Naturally.
Ginger once said,
“Oh come on, King, you just cut a few holes and stick a candle in it.”
That’s exactly why I don’t let her handle the carving knife.
Pumpkin carving is all about composition, light, shadow, and philosophy.
A properly carved pumpkin isn’t just decoration — it’s self-expression.
Take my latest creation, for example.
Its title: “No Inspiration Without Coffee.”
The eyes are shaped like coffee beans, the nose is a tiny roasted one, and a small wooden spoon rests between its carved lips.
Babú says it’s “too intellectual,” but I can’t expect him to grasp abstract art while he’s still sulking about the Wisdom Mugs.

Here’s my advice for novice carvers:
Never be afraid to break the mold.
Not every pumpkin needs triangle eyes and a crooked grin.
Experiment with geometric shapes, feline motifs, or — if you’re truly daring — carve a cat holding a mug.
(Yes, I’m working on that. Yes, it’s brilliant. Obviously.)
And here’s a final thought for your creative journey:
In pumpkin carving, it’s not about how deep you cut, but how much light you let through.
Now, if you’ll excuse me…
Taby just tried to eat the candle again.
